Ohio EPA has awarded an environmental education mini grant to The Charles School at Ohio Dominican University. Nine projects throughout the state were funded.
The Charles School project aims to measure energy use and efficiency in its school building at Ohio Dominican University while investigating green alternatives and promoting sustainable building design. The grant will be used to create and implement a student-directed, teacher-supervised and project-based high school science curriculum with tangible results. The curriculum will integrate academic and experiential study of the energy used to operate the school’s building. The students will audit this energy and seek solutions to the cost and pollution associated with traditional energy sources. The students also will be challenged to propose more efficient energy sources and use.
